Seriously....my wife's cellphone is better than the Nav system on this Volt. Any updates to the software to the system? It seems lost!

The Nav in mine is doing pretty well. At least as well as my Droid. Kinda depends on how it is failing. If it is truely just lost you might have a bad GPS or GPS antennae. If it know where it is, but takes you to a location other then where you think it should then maybe the maps need to be updates. BTW, the maps in the NAV unit don't cover the whole US in detail. You can go the config screen in the vehicle and see where they have detailed maps. You may not be in an are that has detailed maps.
As I understand it the Nav system software used in cars is just from a few outside sources. The rate of updates is at various levels with highways/metro areas roads at the highest level of refresh, to residential streets and maybe cornfields(?) at a low level. And the refresh is covers something like 98-99% of the new content . So what you experienced is likely the case of catching up in the future. Your wife's cell phone likely has another source for nav info so that is why there is a difference.
You can always call OnStar and ask the advisor for the same location request and they may be able to find it through the web based system they have, it may be one way of finding it.

Oh one more comment I forgot to add commercial businesses have a higher priority than homes too in the refresh rate.

It is ironic, is it not? I grow corn, was looking for a commercial business south of Chicago, and LITERALLY ended up in a cornfield at the end of a dead end street?! Thanks for the comments everyone.

I don't have the nav system in my Volt but use the OnStar turn by turn which is great. Very easy to set the destination with the iPhone app and works like a champ. Because the system is web based, it is likely to be updated regularly.
I assume you can still use the OnStar nav in cases where your destination on the built in system isn't up to date. Of, course the trick is knowing when it right and wrong.
Here's the link for NAV updates. http://www.gmnavdisc.com/buy-a-disc.asp?lang=en
Anyone taken the plunge to purchase the update(s)?

I thought I read that we were entitled to one nav update a year. Is that true? If so, why should we need to purchase that disc?
