Default Charging the Tesla Model S

Considering how complicated I think the Tesla Model S charging options are I think this is a very COOL page with a lot of interactive features that are simplified.

That is a great website, very helpful for new buyers.

It's funny, or sad really, that the Volt still has the slowest charger on the market. 31MPHC like the Tesla on L2 would be incredible. Heck, even the Leaf & FFE 6.6 @ 20MPHC would be great. The 3.3 is keeping us from buying a 2nd Volt. Hopefully GM releases an upgrade soon.

Nice post Scott. I will be looking at the Model S when we put my wife's Prius out to pasture.

I dunno about the slowest charger on the market. L2 ain't bad. Not everyone has 6.6 kw available, or not all the time. For example, the popular and high quality inverters for solar tend to be at 4kw each...just right for L2.

I went out this AM and did a 50 mile run - all the way down (made 50 pure electric before that, the trip was 50.3) Got back home at 1:30 or so, and the car is already full again before the sun goes down. Works for me!

As long as the Volt is 3.3 it's the slowest charge on the market. Sure you can't take advantage of the faster charging rates at some locations, but that doesn't mean that it's not the slowest. It's slow and Chevy needs to get the upgrade out there.

We'd be able to get 20MPHC (or even 31MPHC on the Tesla) easily at home. That would work way better for us and we'll probably drive the Leaf/FFE much more often.

Really depends on individuals situations. In general, I charge from 12am to 3am. So going from 12am to 1:30am doesn't matter. On some weekends I do charge more than once but I'm not going 80+ miles (ie. need 2 charges worth). I suspect you are in the minority so it may not be a critical for GM ... ie. if they are prioritizing from a big list to meet the most customers "needs" given limited resources (time and money).
