It seems as though eventually we find that GM engineers have a good reason for almost every nuance of our Volts (well, except for the pause button not persistent, you know, the radio-comes-on-all-the-time thing). Anyway, I got to wondering if our friendly and helpful regulators might be behind some of the NAV "features" that discern.

OMG, it's much worse than I would have guessed: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13746_7...tion-unusable/

I remember once on a cruise vacation, a guy had a wrist watch that changed the time zones automatically based on GPS. After he missed a sail-away in Russia and had to buy a very expensive plane ticket to catch up with the ship, missing 2 days of the cruise, he threw his time zone adjusting watch into the ocean.

I believe the vehicle does know the actual time, because under delayed charging, the owner's manual says it uses a clock that may be different from the vehicle's display. BTW, GM navigation systems did change the time automatically based on GPS when they first came out, so I imagine there was a reason for removing this no-cost feature.
