I got mine yesterday, a very pleasant surprise indeed. I'm glad to see GM encouraging the work-of-mouth kind of marketing. Volt drivers are the best people to help spread the word. I'll be putting my QR code in the window post haste. Ordered December 2011, picked up March 2nd 2012.

Just got mine, and yes, very nice book. The book of course is wrong in the important detail that yes, the ICE CAN directly drive the tranny in some cases, as that GM drive-train video set showed us, for a gain in efficiency in certain conditions. So it still spreads some confusion. Though maybe when those things happened, this mode hadn't been available yet.

The rest looks like a marketing handout at a dealer. So yeah, they want us to be salespeople w/o a commission. I'm actually quite willing - I'd like to see more of these around. So far, I'm the "only" Volt out here in the mountains it seems, though obviously my dealer (up in a city 50 mi north of me) has sold a few. Last I went in there to see them, they had a couple new ones, and none of the ones they had when I bought mine, at any rate. They are still waiting for part B of the battery lift so they can do my conversion, though I'm not wild about the idea - I seem to have gotten one of those "everything went right when they made it" cars. Zero rattles, perfect fit/finish, perfect function. Darn if I feel great about having a dealer take it apart...NOT. Even my rarely used 120v EVSE works fine. It ain't broke, don't fix it.

If that qr code takes you to myvolt.com...(don't have a scanner to find out) then well, that's not so smart, great art, but crummiest website on the planet to navigate.

All I did was nothing - it just arrived, and I bought my Volt last October.

I'm sorry, this hits one of my buttons.

The book may be wrong but it's more likely it's dated - using statements prior to GM owning up to this particular mode. However, in this statement I could infer that the ICE SOLELY drives the wheels at some point, and that's not right either (is it?)

Perhaps we can come up with a simple way of stating that torque/power generated by the ICE, excess of that being used to generate electricity in MG A to power MG B, may flow into the transmission indirectly through MG A via the planetary gear system. That's a lot of qualifications that make it difficult to explain even with a picture, and it seems the only people who give a rats behind about this are pedantic weenies (not that I'm calling you one for simply pointing out an error in the book). However, I think having a common way of describing this to such weenies is useful. Anyone got such a description handy?

The Volt drive train is different: it's different than HSD, it's different than what other GM hybrids use, it's different than the Leaf (and other BEVs). It may be similar to Fisker, I'm not familiar enough with that to say.

The Volt is different. That's good enough for me.

Although the details of what elements are connected to which part of the planetary gear are different, for all practical purpose the Volt system is exactly the same as the Prius HSD when the Volt engine is on at speeds over ~35 mph and less than full acceleration. (under other conditions, with different clutches engaged, it bears little resemblance to HSD, and thus suffers few of its limits overall.) Over ~65 it behaves the same way, too - running as an eCVT with battery current mostly zeroed.

My sentiments exactly, although I do see value in the coolant level sensor.
