Default 240 Charger for someone who rents???

Club Volt, I'm a renter in a nice neighborhood, but some day, probably within a few years will move on. What is the best mobile solution for charging from a rental. I really don't want to spend so much on something I can't take with me.

There's probably a smattering of prior posts. Apologies guys and gals.

There are some designed to plug in, one from SPX called the Power Express for instance. You just need an electric dryer type plug for it.

Some have just added a dryer cord to a $490 SPX VOlTEC charger.

Offhand, I can think of a couple of questions:

Do you have an assigned parking space?
    Indoors or outdoors?
How far to a 240 volt source?

    Default Rental Space

Good questions. I have a 3 car garage. The dryer is just on the opposite side of the door opening from the garage. I do use the 120 volt plug in on the outlet just before I touch the door.

Is there a splitter so I can plug in the car and the laundry machine? Realize a person can't use both at once. Unplugging and plugging in the dryer won't work for my much better half. She's ask me to stop that pretty quickly.

I do not know about a splitter, but is getting another, dedicated 240V dryer plug a possibility with your landlord?

I think they run about $100-200. for electricians to install. Maybe your landlord will pay for it, maybe half?

I know you asked about a 220 charge cord but I have been using a 120 charge cord ( set at 8 amps not the normal 12 amps ) for 7 months at a condo. I just plugged into the same outlet as the overhead door power.

Many of the 220 volt chargers can be removed and you take them with you when you move.

Not a splitter plug, but there is a special switch. See http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread....t=dryer+switch
