Default CNET Auto Review: 2012 Chevy Volt

This was just posted on CNET:

BTW, during the past few hot days, my 2012 Volt is showing "38 Miles" range when I leave the garage for a run. So, I'm wondering what the 2013 Volt will actually show as fully-charged range?

There are too many variables to answer this question. Previous driving habits on the Volt and outside temperature are the big factors. The main thing is how much range you actually achieve.

@drbruns: I didn't do a good job of writing that question. I think I was trying to say that GM rates the '12 at 35 miles range fully charged, but my vehicle is showing 38 (which is THE 'big deal' with the '13--3 more miles on battery) so I was just wondering if the '13 might show 40 miles range, etc. Guess we need a 2013 owner to 'chime-in.'

We need some more users to add their reviews.

The guy that reviewed the car was truly terrible! Why didn't they get someone WITHOUT a lisp to do the review, so I could actually understand what he was saying.

Guy was a pure tool! There are so many great raving reviews of the Volt out there. I just wanted to push him to the ground and kick him in the mouth.

Well I regularly see 45 miles projected range on my 2011 with a high of 50 miles. Software limits the projection to 50 miles even though I've gone over 55 miles in CD (no Mountain Mode). I think that means that I might be able to get a 2013 to go 60 miles. YMMV.

BTW, I pay no attention to any review, just like sales people they rarely know what they are talking about. Educate yourself with facts and understanding for what you are buying. Other peoples opinions hardly ever sway me.

The reviewer sounded like an English major with an aversion to technology. Couldn't they find somebody who doesn't lve in an apartment without a power cord receptacle?

You guys can handle this one I think there are 10 good Volt reviews for every bad review, so I tend not to get my feathers in a ruffle when they dont get everything.

The only thing that bothered me are the comments about the braking. The actualt precision of the braking of the Volt isnt spectacular. BUT, when driving in Low mode, I find that I am VERY RARELY late to brake. in fact, so much that I underestimate braking in other vehicles. I wish GM would give these people some overview before they hand the cars over for a review.

I don't think this review was that bad. I wouldn't call a motor an engine but he tried. I think it's hard for someone living in an apartment who can't charge to fairly review the car. Most of the benefit comes from plugging in, and if you can't do that then I don't think the Volt is the car for you. The only thing that surprises me is how the smoothness and quietness and responsiveness get overlooked. You get the feeling these guys are robots.

I don't get all the negative comments about the brakes. The Brakes in my 2012 Volt feel about that same say my previous Toyota Camry. My brakes work fine. I wonder if the car they reviewed had a problem?
