    Default Volt Charging

In Oz we have standard 240V 10Amp Power outlets.
What typical recharge time would be expected for a full charge from 'empty'?
And what benefit, if any would be gained by adding a 240V 15Amp outlet for use by the volt?

As far as I know outside north america the only option is the 10amp charger. That will charge the Volt in approx. 6 hours.

It's just speed. Watts = Volts X Amps. 240V X 10 Amps = 2400 watts. 240V X 15 Amps = 3600 watts. More watts equals faster charging. The Volt can only charge at 3.3 kW so moving to 15 amps won't matter much.

    Just to restate the numbers

At 240 volts 13.75 amps is max the volt will take in or 3300 watts.

But not sure if your local electrical code would make you use a 20 amp line or let you use a 15 amp circuit ?

There are other third party portable chargers cords if the extra amps are needed.

The Australian domestic mains 10A/230 circuit gives you a single hot lead, a neutral lead, and an earth (ground) lead. Thats not the same as a level 2 240 charger in the US, which has two hot leads feeding it and puts out two hot leads to the car. And you don't pull a full 10 amps from such a circuit, so Level 1 is probably drawing 8 amps x 230 V = 1.84 KW, giving a time to full charge of 6 hours.

Charge Point Australia's website says that the australian level 2 will fully charge a Volt in 1 hour. But as Volt can only accept 3.3 KW, that would not seem true. And they refer to a 15 amp level 1 charger, but Australian main outlets in garages and such are 10 amp.

Good news is that Australia does have level 2 chargers available. But unless something odd has happened, they won't charge a Volt in only an hour.

I believe the 'Holden' Volt will go on sale in November (2013MY) with specifications and pricing out before then end of July.
