Default New Volt owner in Texas

I am a long time truck driver and up until saturday had a F150. It did an incredible 16 mpg and I had a 44 mile daily commute. I was putting nearly $100 a week in gas into that thing. The Volt has intrigued me since it was announced. So, I went out and test drove one this weekend and drove home in it. Since then I have done 150 miles and used 0.1 gallons of gas. I think me and my Volt are going to get along nicely. I need to look into a 240v charging station.

    Anyway, Hi!

Congratulations! You will enjoy the car.

If there is a way you can charge at work, you can reduce your gas needs even further, especially in the winter when you will see slightly less electric range.

    Congrats and welcome.

We're seeing more truck owners becoming volt owners. Not going to haul full sheets of plywood, but surprising what you can get into it. Did you keep the truck?

Congrats! Hope you love yours as much as I love mine. Go join the North Texas group at voltstats (voltstats.net) if you get a chance.

If you were a northern truck driver, I'd say you could just use the preheater plug-in, where you park your big truck.....

Really funny reading this! I literally just got back from lunch (in northeast Irving), where a guy driving an Avalanche starting asking me about the car as I was about to leave. It turned into a 20-minute conversation out in the sun, and he left serious about going for a test drive and saying "I think you just sold one." I love this car. And when you show someone that you've used 1.0 gallon of gas in the last 2775 miles, it catches attention.

Welcome! I think you'll love it. There are quite a few Blink charging stations popping up in DFW. We've got some in Carrollton and Garland at our stores (Carrier Enterprise - an HVAC distributor) where you can "fill up" on 240V for free. Stop by if you're in the area, send me a PM.

The volt has its quirks but it is about the best car you can buy for commuting in DFW. My commute is 44 miles round trip (with no charging at work) and I use 1 gallon of gas per week along with about $7 worth of electricity.

I did keep the truck for my wife to drive. She drives small distances and we live out in the country so a truck is handy. My commute was the main problem. The only thing of annoyance I have found up to now is the legroom for my right knee, it seems to push against the side.

Congrats on the car and welcome to the forum. Lots of good information here so if you have any questions just ask.

The Volt is quite a different drive than what you're used to. I love it because it's so smooth, quiet, and responsive. Sounds like I drive in more traffic than you do so the responsive part may not be so important to you. My only cautionary note would be to be careful letting your wife drive the Volt -- you might find yourself back in the truck! LOL
