You only need the price of a good dinner every few years to do this.
Lyle, the good man who started this site, sold it to VerticalScope (http://www.verticalscope.com/), and they definitely are motivated by ad sales and profit. I suspect that their decisions also extend beyond just this site, so removing offensive ads may be easier said than done.

The solution is to use a browser that has good ad blocking, I use Firefox and AdBlock+ never seen an ad from this site. This is internet wide, not an issue with this site, there here to make there money off our eyeballs as are most forums and blogs. If you stop going to sites with ads, you choices will be limited, its all a none issue by just using the right tools/ browser. The time it took the OP to type the bye message, you could have been setup with Firefox and no more problems

My temporary solution to this annoying ad problem is to only check this site on my iPad which doesn't throw popup junk.

I'e been happy with Safari on OS X for years without the need for any ad blocker (until last week with the issues here).

GM-Volt.com, please don't drive me to a different browser because of junk ad issues.

Chrome with Adblock and Antisocial (the latter became a must on one of the other car sites I frequent) here...working well.

I must admit, I too am tempted to quit the site. Here is my question: if the ads annoy the members so much that they leave and drive others to install ad blockers, what is the use of the ads? They drive members away, upset those that remain, or are rendered invisible by the rest. So what's the value of having them?

I ignored them when they were unobtrusive, but then the ads became aggressive about a week ago, blocking out the home page, vibrating, flashing, talking to me, hijacking page links. Seems odd to have to install extra software to block the ads.

But I ask again, if everyone blocks the ads, the ads go unseen so why not simply dump the ads?

P.S. The home page seems a lot calmer now. So maybe the cleanup has already happened?

I use Firefox with popup blocker enabled. I have the /forum page bookmarked, so this is how I get to the site. I never see the home page and have never seen a popup.

I am using a Mac with Safari. I have no pop up ads. I have no need for popup ad blockers. I have no need for anti-malware software. I have no virus issues. My machine runs wicked fast. No problems whatsoever. It just works.

Many people who access this site while at work from work computers (like me) do not have the option to install other browsers and/or ad blockers. At work, I am running IE and the pop up ads are very obnoxious and fill most of the screen.

On my home PC running Chrome, I'm not even seeing the pop ups.

I don't get it. I have IE9 with the popup blocker enabled, and I don't see any problem with the forums. The home page, on the other hand, has had some strange behavior, and sometimes won't display. But I haven't seen an issue with the forums.

I think there is too much good information and too good a community to jump ship over a couple ads. Codyozz, I hope you will reconsider your decision. Your contributions here have been welcomed and enjoyed.

And thanks to all for the Ad blocker suggestion, that will improve my life a bit.
