Hello, fellow Buick owner! I have a 1995 Buick Regal limited sedan with the 3800 V6 engine, and I do most of my own servicing to save money and gas. I bought and use the Actron Scanner to read the diagnostic codes and live engine data, which you can buy at most auto shop: http://www.actron.com/product_category.php?id=249

But you must do one important step first, and that is to buy the GM factory service manuals at Helm Inc:
    http://www.helminc.com/helm/Result.a...elected_media=

With the manuals you can follow the exact steps that the GM dealers do, and see the exact tools needed to complete any servicing. The information that GM has for each vehicle is what helps you understand the symptoms and do the correct service. The manuals cost may be high, but if you plan to keep the LaCrosse for many years (my Regal is seventeen years old and still runs like new), you will recover this cost and really save some money later. For now, I recommend that to begin your savings (and improve torque and MPG) you should replace your spark plugs with E3 Diamond Fire plugs (http://www.e3sparkplugs.com/) and replace the GM paper air filter element with a K&N cloth air filter (http://www.knfilters.com/). With these two replacements, I have gain a 10% MPG increase, and my 3800 V6 engine can sustain 60 MPH with just 1600 RPM in "D" (third gear). If the Regal's transmission had more gears, it could use much less RPM! At idle, it runs at 700 RPM, and if I invest more money to help it "breath" better (valve train, camshaft, and exhaust system) I could do better MPG and torque, but I will not recover that higher investment.

Another worthy investment is to use synthetic engine oil which will last longer and reduce wear better than regular engine oil. I use Mobil 1 after the warranty period expired.

This site is mainly for Chevy Volt owners and others who are interested and wish to buy one, like me. We also know that the LaCrosse and the new Regal have "eAssist" which is a light hybrid. I like the new LaCrosse and if I cannot buy a Volt, I will buy the LaCrosse. But we expect GM to manufacture a Buick version of the Volt that should be named "Electra" to follow the Volt/Ampera naming, using a famous Buick model name, and in the LaCrosse body.

Enjoy your Buick and have fun!
