Sorry about the damage. The only possible slightly good thing is, as the Volt has very low production, GM will probably be the only source of spare parts. No crappy knock off repair panels, etc. Good luck with the insurance end of things. Ray

I know this isn't in the same category, but after 8 months of owning my Volt, I finally got the first scratch/ding in it. My daughter tried to ride her bike out of the garage instead of walking it to the driveway and, of course, she side-swiped the Volt with her brake lever, leaving a 6 inch scratch. It's just in the bumper cover, so it can probably be buffed out or easily repaired, but it still bummed me out.
My fiance was rear ended in our Volt after only 6 weeks of ownership. It is disappointing, but it is only a material item.
We took the opportunity to request a Nissan Leaf for our rental. It was a great car and it was nice to be able to try out a pure EV without having to commit to a purchase.
With the amount of damage you indicated, make sure you drop the words, "Diminished Value" to the insurance company liable for repairs. I am no expert on diminished value (google it), but you should be able to get a little extra money in your pocket for it (unless you are leasing and then it's a non-issue).

I think it would still be an issue with a lease, as it will reduce the resale value, so the insurance company should give a "diminished value" check to the leasing company (owner). Then the leasing company should lower the price the leasee would pay if s/he wants to buy the car when the lease is up (residual value?). If the leasing company doesn't lower the price, then the price will likely be higher than the market value and the the leasing company won't be able to sell the car.
Sorry to hear it, and I can truly sympathize. My 2 month old Volt had an SUV back into it just two weeks ago. It left a nice imprint of their trailer hitch in my passenger door panels. Now neither passenger door will open. Mine goes into the shop tomorrow. Their insurance will cover the $2,400 bill.
I can relate to that truly sick feeling of WHY DID THEY HAVE TO HIT MY NEW VOLT :-(
Let's hope your repair goes smoothly.

Yeah....My drivers door wont open from the outside....have to open it from the inside...... Which Volt was damaged...The white or the red one (and if it was the white----is it the diamond tricoat??)...I am concerned about how the paint will come out because I have the diamond white tricoat and I heard it can be difficult to color match........hope it turns out okay....
VoltageDrop,
It was my new red Volt that got hit -- just took delivery on March 15th. The dealer just informed me that they will actually have to replace the entire door shells, not just the surface panels, on both passenger side doors. I have also heard that even with new cars, where they is not any fading yet, they will still have to blend the paint color on adjacent panels in order for it to match perfectly.
Hope your repair goes more smoothly.
Ron
