Same here. I got too excited in getting the car, didn't realize that MyLink was only a $100. option that may actually be worth it. Plus learning about the entire car took a lot of time, and when I finally got to understand the MyLink, it was too late. They should have advertise it better saying that MyLink was their alternative to Ford/Microsoft's Sync.

I quickly dismissed the $100-200 options for stuff that I did not find useful like mats, cargo netting, ashtray, etc. Arg...I was about to run down to my local dealership and just buy it...but, it seems it has to be installed at the factory.

Thanks all for the clarity. I hope I will find someone posting on these forums if there will ever be an upgrade or comprable product.

Ahh yeah. While technically correct, the wording could be better. They should probably reference the fact that the optional MyLink package is required.

Heck, for only $100. they should have just included it. If anything, it would allow people to show it off to friends. At least, that is what the Ford/MS Sync owners are doing. A bit of the free advertising.

I guess that is what they are doing for the 2013 Volts.

I guess my suggestion to GM is to consider it as a waranty / service item, and just install it for everyone--they would probably get a larger fan base for a small $ item. (after all, their volt base is relatively small and very loyal, wink-wink).

I for one, would not mind paying $100. after the fact. But, I would have jumped on my Volt purchase with or without it. Now, I just really want it.

I really wanted MyLink, too. It's a pretty standard feature on a lot of current cars, including my 2011 LEAF. I use the BlueTrip instead:

It does the job, but you do not have the steering wheel controls. I don't find it much of an issue, though. I'd rather navigate thousands of songs on my iPhone 4S via the iPhone itself rather than steering wheel or Volt touchscreen. Volume control via the steering wheel still works and that's good enough.

This is why I waited three months to get my Volt. I could have had bought one in Feb for $3100 off MSRP but decided to wait until it was an orderable option which occurred in late Feb. Put my order in and then the shutdown hit which set me back another month.

Although the center information console looks similar, I am told that the hardware is different, which is why a retrofit is not possible.

Different hardware, fine, swap it out. Hardware is replaced all the time. I for one would also like a mylink upgrade on my non NAV volt.

It's been available for quite at least 2-3 months+, but it is only available on non-NAV equipped Volts.

It's been available as an orderable option since late Feb, but I don't think any actually came off the assembly line until Mid April after the production restart.

I think all 2012s should be updated with mylink to keep the customers happy. I bought my volt May 2012 only to get it home to find out it doesn't have mylink! What a disappointment!!! I didn't know i had to look at the manufacture date to find out that my car is really a 2011 1/2 I figured that buying after spring 2012 was good enough. I would return the car if i could find a similar equipped with my link. That would go over like fart in church!
