it's an apples to apples comparison, but the SoCal apple is much bigger!
Actually... In my case I was not able to take advantage of the LADWP rebate program because my Volt is registered to my employer. LADWP can't issue a rebate if the car registration address is different than the charger installation location. So I was not able to get a rebate from LADWP.

As I mentioned on other threads... I did have some difficulty with my installation due to the complexity involved. I lived in a condo building with a large service panel. I wanted to add a TOU meter. It was a pretty long run from the Meter to my garage. Even with all of these factors SPX only wanted $562. out of pocket. I could barely even buy a Voltec L2 for $562 with tax. (Much less have it installed.) I certainly could not have afforded a higher quality charger like a CT-500 without SPX involved.

So in my case... $562 for a complex installation that included the addition of a separate TOU meter seemed like a pretty good deal to me... And with an added $100-$200 off it would be an even better deal.

In the end... After some negotiation... I ended up paying nothing because SPX agreed to cover my out of pocket costs entirely. So as I said. My installation was free. SPX covered all of it. I really can't complain about the way SPX treated me.

All I meant was that some people buy the charger and do the work themselves (Or ask friend...) without filing the paperwork and following building codes. (Which I would discourage...)

I agree that most qualified & licensed electricians "should" be able to get the work done. But sometimes it is a lot more complex than just the technical issues. In my case SPX first sent over an electrical contractor who had extensive experience installing Solar Power systems but had very little experience with EV chargers. (And NONE in condo buildings.)

Multi-Familly condo buildings can be a very "tricky" job when it comes to the permits. I had my installation fail inspection three times because the electrical contractor did not know which inspector to call. (Once because the charger had to be lowered to "wheel chair" accessible height.) We ended up getting random commercial building inspectors, random residential inspectors... Little did the first solar contractor know that the city of LA only had a few inspectors that were qualified to handle it. Even the city building inspectors disagreed on how the separate meter had to be installed in my situation. The Commercial inspector insisted that the entire service panel for the building needed to be replaced. Other inspectors said they could just tap the existing buss. The contractor had no idea who was right.

Finally SPX called a second electrical contractor in to handle my job. The new contractor was highly experienced with EV charger installations in LA. The new contractor had my system approved within about 2 weeks. Not because he knew how to tighten the lugs... But because this electrical contractor & SPX knew how to get the "right" inspector over who knew the LA policy on charger installations in multi-family dwellings. In my case it was not so much a technical issue as a permit political issue. Without SPX's help I never would have been able to afford my charger... And I never would have been able to sort out the permit issues alone.
