That "film" is known as "The Vinyl Fog" it's caused by all the adhesives and plastics leaching their petro-chemicals. The best way to clean glass like this is a few sheets of your newspaper and any window cleaner. Newspaper will cut all that grime and leave your glass crystal clear.

Thanks for the input about Costco Sunshades, just picked on up. Price is now $6.99 + tax. Item #559468.

Yes, I have also had the lettering problem and the window fog problem with my Volt shade. One thing that helps when I park in a secure location (at work or home) is that I put the shade on the outside of the windshield. It provides much better cooling, and doesn't leave a film. It is also heavy enough to stay there even in a pretty good wind.

I have used the "Headsheild" brand for years, they have a custom fit for the Volt. They roll up. I got mine for about $35 delivered from a Dealer on Ebay or Amazon, sorry I can't remember.

Here's the one we bought, that we are extremely happy with. It has a "bubble wrap" type center layer that does an excellent job keeping heat out of the car, and we actually ended up buying two other shades of the same type for our other cars. It's a really perfect fit, and even has the cutout for the black box behind the rearview mirror.

Thanks much for comment about sun shield. I did a search on Amazon and found this link. May be the product you had in mind. Heatshield brand sunshade.

I'm really pleased with this one, no problems what so ever and really does reflect the heat quite well.
