    Default Sun Shade Problems?

I have been using my Sun Shade that I purchased from GM with the VOLT logo. When I fold it for the drive to lunch and open it back up when I return from lunch the black paint sticks to the fold. The black paint is coming off the logo. Has anyone else had this problem?

Yep. Mine is doing the same thing. I also don't like how droopy it gets.

Same for me. And I second the "droopy" comment. I figured because of the custom fit it would stay in place well, but by the end of the day it is bowed a few inches away from the windshield.

Not only that, but I'm finding I need to clean my windows at least once/week as a light film settles on it. This problem didn't begin until I began using my Volt sunshade. It does work better than generic ones to keep it cooler which is good in the Arizona heat!

My Volt sunshade also droops when left in the sun for a period of time. I guess as long as it doesn't droop far enough to fall out of place, I'll keep using it. Haven't noticed an issue with the Volt logo printing coming off.

I also had the filming problem on the inside of the windshield when my Volt was new. I've had it a year and almost three months now, and that issue has gone away on its own, even with still using the sunshade.

I have the same problem with the logo sticking. I think its due to the heat of the sun and the paint used is heating up and sticking to the other side of the shade. When the vehicle is cool when you fold the shade, it won't stick...still better than the after market shades out there...

I've had the film on the inside of the windshield issue on multiple cars, so that is not something unique to the Volt. I usually clean the inside of the windshield with Windex periodically to get rid of it.

There have been previous reports of the silkscreen sticking to both the windshield and itself (when folded up) and self-destructing (only the logo, not the shade).

I don't know - I got a set of 3 (windshield and 2 side windows) for ~$20 at Costco that seems to work just fine. It folds up into an 8" circle, spring-loaded to expand out to a generic windshield size. I'm just not willing to spend $100 (ok, $80 from Allen - "GM Parts Man" here) to get a shade.

So, "better" in what way? Better in sticking to the window? Better at fitting the window? Better in keeping the inside cooler? The aftermarket is clearly better in the first, where better is NOT sticking at all. I would presume that it's better at the second thing, since it was purpose-designed to fit the Volt windshield - if it's not, then it's a total fail. However, the last metric is the one that seems to be the goal of these things, and since you claim it's better, have you measured it?

I live in Las Vegas where the temps can reach well over 110 degrees so the sticking doesn't surprise me but Chevy has provided me with a new one at no cost and I don't fold this one until its cooled down fixing the sticking problems. I believe its better because the free no questions asked warranty, the form fitting way it conforms to the windshield and the material its made of...it looks better from outside with the Volt logo on it. The shade was incldued in the items on the vehicle so I probably wouldn't have spent the $80 either, but since it was included with the vehicle and does offer Volt advertisement in a small way, However I did purchase the trunk rubber mat, the back seat center closure and Volt logo rubber front all weather mats, I like seeing the Volt logo so why not...just my opinion...

Take it to the dealer if it was included with the car as mine was as an added dealer installed accessory or if you purchased it within 12 months from the dealer it has a 12 month warranty. The dealer installed or purchased when the car itself was purchased has a 3yr 36k warranty. I have already had mine replaced and now i turn it inside out so that the logo does not show and thus it doesn't get as hot. i have not had any more problems since then.
