Thread: Startup sound doesn't work

    Default Startup sound doesn't work

My Volt hasn't ever made the startup sound. I've read threads saying to turn the volume up while turning the car on. But that doesn't seem to do anything. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, can somebody be more specific on the process?

    Thanks.

Perhaps it's disabled in a setup menu? (I don't think my 2011 has such a menu item, not sure about the '12s.)

If you turn the volume control while starting the car, does the display show the Audio Cue Volume bar and the label? The label/bar looks the same as the one you get whenever you change audio volume. I'm not sure how long it gives you to turn the knob while the sound is playing, but you must be quick...

The volume control is context sensitive - it changes the volume of whatever is in the foreground at the moment - Nav, startup, stereo, etc. But you can always change any individual volume from the setup menu.

Hrmm... I've scoured the config menu and cannot find any setting for startup volume. I've twisted the volume knob like crazy while starting the car and nothing... just the radio volume bar shows up and the radio gets loud, but the startup sound never makes an appearance. I've even tried the plus button on the steering wheel while starting the car. No luck. I'd really like to hear the sound.

Make sure the "audio cues" is *checked*

The first sound is when you get in and sit in the seat - the sound that has that coach whistle. -(might be seat and key triggered)
the other (start up sound ) is after you push the start button.

So try to turn the vol dial as soon as you get in the car.

Each software update needs a new start up sound-

Saw that menu, thought that might be it but then I figured it was related to menu sounds, but the point was moot because it was checked on my car anyway. Still trying to figure this out...

First, power on your Volt. Turn down the radio volume all the way. Then, try this: Push CONFIG -> Radio -> Audio Cue Options -> Audio Cue Volume. At the bottom of the screen is a big blue button labeled Audio Cue Volume. Pressing that will play the sound you hear when you sit in the driver's seat with the RKE fob and shut the door.

If you don't hear anything, even with the volume turned up, then something isn't right. Let us know if you fix it!

That would be covered by the warranty, take it in and let them adjust it.

I love driving my Volt. And the "welcome" tune is part of that great feeling I have a car that is next generation. Take it in- that's what warranties are all about.
