Default Various calculators related to potential (or current) Volt owners

I've wanted to start this thread for a while but wasn't sure how to organize it and didn't have all the links yet. I think it could include various calculators such as comparisons, lease, MPGe, etc. Feel free to give me links or other ideas. I'll keep the first few post for future use. (Yes, for the record I realize buying a new car is not a good investment and this car is "expensive" but only compared to a much less featured economy car. I don't lease and I plan on keeping this purchased car for well over 10 years).

I [Tom Dixon] have to admit it. I want everyone to dive a Volt. I want to evangelize the many benefits of the Volt and convince anyone thinking about buying a new car to test drive a Volt. So, I decided to try to create something that would help me show people the positive economic and environmental benefits of driving a Volt, and... after weeks of working on it, last night I finished writing an application to compare any 2012 car against the Chevy Volt for fuel cost and CO2 emissions

Thanks. I tried the calculator and it was good but had one flaw. The electric rates for my utility did not include the time of use rate off-peak rate. So it calculated using 12 cents rather than 4.6 cents. Bummer.

Thanks. Corrected the link in the two places above.

I've seen that happen before when the links get copied and pasted. For some reason the ellipses that some sites insert to truncate the link text break the link on the MacOS version if not both versions. These should work:
    Windows version:
    http://home.comcast.net/~tom.dixon99...ltValueWin.zip
    MacOS version:
    http://home.comcast.net/~tom.dixon99...ValueMacOS.zip

The calculator is intended to show average price which for most people is a worst case scenario. I haven't been able to find a compressive nationwide database or listing of off peak pricing references like is available for the average pricing. It has been suggested that I allow for manual entry of off peak pricing which I have on the drawing board along with a few other features including manual entry of MPG, 5/10 year use figures and possibly a graph with the cost per mile ratio. It could get way complex if I start trying to add in maintenance and such over 5/10 years with as many vehicles as I have in the database so I am leaving that out since some of the other links on this page do that pretty well for a good representative of vehicle types.

I've been on a hiatus for further development over the past couple of weeks in an attempt to get some yard work done now that spring has sprung here in Minnesota, and to prevent those spousal frowny faces from appearing for spending too much time on the current version. I hope to bring out a revised version soon though.
