Post Heat (weather) related center stack issues

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or similar.

My car is usually always under cover but today I had to make a trip and the car ended up sitting outside, facing east, in the sun for about three hours. I should have put my screen in the windshield but didn't think I'd be that long. Temps were upper 80's but it was a cloudless sky.

Anyway, upon leaving, everything was normal for about 30 seconds when the audio shut down, had been playing music from the HDD. Couldn't select radio or HDD, Nav and most of the other center stack controls were non-responsive as was the touch portion of the center LCD. Fortunately climate controls (other than the touch portion on the LCD) and drivability were unaffected. An immediate shutdown and restart accomplished nothing. I contacted OnStar after getting on the road to see if they could "pull" any codes not thinking that they were limited to propulsion, air bags, brakes, etc. but the car didn't report any problems as this isn't a module that OnStar can monitor.

Anyway, my hope that it was simply heat related seems to have been the case as after getting home after about an hour drive with A/C on, powering down the car for a few minutes and restart, everything seems back to normal.

The sophistication of today's vehicles certainly lend themselves to issues we never use to have but I don't "think" I would have expected something like this.

    Anyone else?

I don't know that I would be thinking it was the heat per se. The heat might be a contributing factor but not the root cause.

We've had temp approach the 90's here in St Louis and my 2012 Volt sits outside for 9+ hours in the St Louis sun and I've not had ANY issues with my Volt. ANY.

But extreme temps can do silly things to electronics.

I had my 2012 out in 105F heat for like 6 hours, no issues. I was attached to a level 2 charger to run the TMS.

I live in Las Vegas where 90-110 degrees are normal days here. My car sits in the sun for 8 hrs at least 2 days a week and for shorter times while shopping with no problems, but I do put my sunshade in the front window and leave a 1/4 window opening for air circulation...

Thanks all for the input. I think I agree with DonC that it probably wasn't really heat related. It's just my very first "hiccup" with the Volt and I've got over 20K miles on it.

Things are back to normal and that's what warranty's are far anyway.

I seem to be having a similar problem... I took my Volt into the dealership several weeks ago because the touch screen kept (intermittently) not wanting to do anything but go to the clock settings. I'd only had the car for about 6 weeks, and it had done this about a dozen or more times.

After leaving the car at the dealership for several days, they told me a diagnostic check produced some sort of error code relating to the touch screen. So, they replaced the radio/screen.

Everything seemed to be going fine for the last couple of weeks. But, then all of the sudden, it starts doing the same thing again yesterday... 3 times and counting. Outside heat has not been extreme. In fact, it did it this morning as I was pulling out of the garage, outside temp only 70. So, I don't think heat is the cause.

The only way I seem to be able to get the screen "unstuck" when it does this is to power down the car, and power it back up. That usually does the trick.

I'm thinking of taking it back into the dealership and let them have another crack. But, I didn't really get a good feeling they truly knew what was wrong the first time, so I can't say my hopes are high!
