Have you seen what a dilbit spill looks like? (Look up the Kalamazoo River Spill.) Bitumen is so thick that it cannot be pumped through a pipe without diluting it with some pretty noxious chemicals. When spilled the dilutants evaporate (causing all sorts of nasty health problems to those exposed) and the bitumen returns to it's tar state. When this tar gets in a river it sinks. If oil companies had invested a fraction as much on cleanup tech as they have on drilling tech they might know how to deal with sunken oil, but they are still using 50 year old technology to fight spills. Floating booms and skimmers are useless on oil that does not float.
It's been almost 2 years since the Kalamazoo spill, and while the early estimates to clean it up were about a month, it's still not clean. It probably never will be. The Exxon-Valdez spill is still re-coating the shore periodically...

Can you imagine the result of bitumen seeping into the aquifer that supplies all the agriculture in the prairies?

It's oil...someone will always benefit & make money off of it. It's not a free product.

Huh?! What?! You REALLY sound like an addict here.

Don't know what crack you been smoken, but stay away from the koolaid. The first thing you do is realize WHO is spinning the story, THEN realize WHO is makin' the money. Don't worry kid- the first hit is FREE! 'It's OIL,[man], someone will ALWAYS benefit' My GOD, listen to yourself. You really need an intervention.
No crack being smoked. And I'm not a kid, regardless of how old you are. What I stated is accurate, and your attempt to dismiss my opinion with the overused koolaid line is out of place. Listen to yourself. There's no spin here.

I'm more than willing to listen and engage in reasonable discussion. But simply accusing me of smoking crack (even if jokingly) and drinking "koolaid" serves no purpose for the intent of this thread. Your statements promoted zero discussion and served only to attack a position you disagreed with.

Exactly why I said, "if environmental concerns are addressed" and "preventive measures are taken". If not, then don't build the thing. I never stated just go wild and build it yesterday. I in no way wish to have our country put at risk.

I would just politely suggest that is something that deserves further contemplation. I doubt it's really even true for you deep down, when push comes to shove.
