software bug or normal operating procedure

When I start my car, the nav screen resumes where it left off. However, every several weeks (maybe monthly-but not related to monthly operating report), the screen provides a warning about how to operate. When I close the screen, my map viewing preferences have changed to some default.

is this by design? do I have a minor glitch waiting to become a larger problem?

I haven't noticed any preferences being reset with the re-warning. But mine does that too. Every month or so, it'll pop up the warning that I have to click out of. I think that's normal. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it was part of some sort of legal regulation to make sure that any long term driver of the vehicle will get the schpiel. In case of ownership change or something.

Same for me in that I whenever I see these seemingly random screen pop up, I never notice anything different in my NAV/radio/etc. I used 3D viewing at 700ft at full screen mode.

You need to read your manuals! They are not random messages.

This is from page 5 of the Navigation System manual.

"Every 50 times the vehicle is started
and the navigation system is turned
on, the Caution screen appears.
After reading the caution, select OK
to load the map DVD information.
If OK is not selected, all control
buttons except for NAV (Navigation)
and DEST (Destination) can be
accessed"

The aspect which resets is showing points of interest. I have no use for that travelling the same route every day. So, I like the screen which shows map and whatever is on sound system. after warning, I get POI's

My brother's lexus RX shows warning EVERY time he turns on car. that is annoying.
