I have looked high and low but can't find anything in the manual on the function of this button.

Autostore - it picks out the 12 strongest AM/FM stations it can see at the moment and assigns them to the favorites reserved for the purpose. It should be described in the stereo portion of the manual.
I didn't known what that was for either and never bothered to research it.
Thanks for the info!

The reply has good information on using the as1-2 button.

Thanks cause there sure isn't any info in the owners manual.
"AS 1-2" along with "TP" are good examples of "we have a little bit of empty space here, let's add more buttons!"
In other words, the Volt center console could do with a few less buttons. This isn't the space shuttle, and they are redundant with the functions found in the menus.
Better yet, let me program F1, F2, F3 to do exactly what I need (e.g., "Fan to zero" and "Climate Auto, ECO mode").
Following buttons could leave the center stack and I doubt anyone would notice:
AS 1-2
Mute (duplicate of wheel controls)
Phone (duplicate of wheel controls)
Info
Play/Pause (really?)
TP (still don't know what this does)
"Climate" and "Config" should be moved to the sides of the display housing a la 2004-2009 Prius.
This would leave a nice simple set of controls that didn't look like a GM engineer barfed up buttons onto the panel in some random manner.
I think the TP button has something to do with going to the bathroom...

From the MY2011 owners manual page 7-41 (the infotainment chapter):
AS1–2 (Autostore): The stations that can be received best in an AM or FM band can be searched for and stored automatically through the autostore function. Each band has two autostore lists (AS 1, AS 2), in each of which six stations can be stored. To update station list press and hold AS 1-2 button for more than two seconds.
I'm not sure where it is for MY2012. I think there may be two manuals for those.
