you cannot bring your Volt to a complete stop in L. best i could do was to roll at 3mph. that is all.

Of course you can't. To feel like an automatic, it has creep away from a stop - which isn't compatible with regen to 0. So to keep both features feeling "natural", the car changes behavior around 3 mph. I didn't think this was news...

maybe i posted too fast. this was a response from another thread asking if it was possible. surely uphill it can be done. but, this was done lighthearted. didn't mean to ruin your steady stream of real news...

Sorry if I sounded abrupt. I had just assumed that everyone pretty much knew that - but maybe I'm wrong.

Just like a creeping automatic, a steep enough hill will cause it to stop - and I believe in that situation it'll drift backwards on a steeper hill. If you've been on the brakes, the car does do hill holding, and won't start to roll back.

I recall a post or two on this "hill holding" and someone was pointing out how well it worked on the Volt (by comparisons). I'm in IL so I wouldn't know <grin>.

The Volt handles hill holding just like everything else the Volt does - smoothly silent and seamless... After I noticed it, on one occasion I decided to test it out - it was still holding still four seconds after I let off the brake pedal, with no sign of going anywhere. When I hit the accelerator, it moved away smoothly. Exactly what you'd expect from this car.

I *think* GM advises against over use of "hill holding" and recommends applying the brake to avoid stressing the electric motor. I did not search the threads but I recall it being discussed.

Yes, you can come to a stop in "L". I do this everyday. The vehicle acts just like an automatic and has a small bit of forward thrust, so it depends on how steep the hill is that you are trying to stop on.
Yes, the hill holder is nice. First, you will roll backwards until you come to a complete stop with the brake pedal. If you have coasted to a stop, you are not hill holding, you are in the narrow range of slopes that the downward pull of gravity is being negated by the force of the motor pulling uphill.
The hill holder will engage after you have come to a stop with the brake pedal, and it will disengage about 2 seconds after you let off the brake pedal. It will not hold indefinitely. I use this feature everyday waiting for my gate to open on my 30% grade driveway.
    I have a 2012 model.

saghost, we seasoned Volt owners have to keep in mind there are new buyers every day and have not been exposed to the vast amount of information learned on this site...we might see the same article or thread posted more than once, but what's old news to us, on brand new info for a new owner, just saying...
