Hi, we had some studies on the portable charger cords that we have here in Malaysia which is based on British Plugs standards of 240V 13Amp and we found that the Nissan Leaf UK specs charger cord is a 240V 10Amp, Delphi is 240V 13Amp. Chevy Volt needs 120V 15Amp and 240V 20Amp. Our charging poles use 13Amp 240V sockets. Technically Volt will not accept these Amperage but we are puzzled that it used to work before using the Delphi 240V 13Amp unit. Can you tell me how GM solved your problem? currently we can not charge our Car.

    What fuses are being blown?

In Malaysia we use British Standard 13Amp 240V sockets "3PIN" the fuse is from the main board. However it does not happen alot, in some cases we get the Red Light blinking as check ground. the Delphi unit for us is custom made to 240V 13Amp.

If you look on Page #6 of this thread, I posted the parts that the dealership replaced that corrected my problem. Basically it was the Charge port receptacle and the Volt's internal charger.

I would SERIOUSLY suggest get a copy of the SAE J1772 standard, study it carefully and setup a test receptacle and evaluate that your custom charger is functioning to that standard. Validate that it's delivering the required voltages at the specified pins. You may have to put a load(like a big 4500W heating element) on it of some description in order for it to start delivering current and I would be EXTREMELY careful. At the very least demand that whoever built your custom charger perform that test for you and document the results.

The Standard allows the car to request and then the EVSE to supply at a particular level. The Volt will happily charge at 8amp (using the supplied 120v charger.. if you push the orange button it will switch from 12amp to 8 amp mode).

If you tripped you circuits a few times, its possible you now have a weakened circuit, maybe leaking to ground, and/or the voltage is slightly out of spec. So the EvSE could be detecting the state and only offering the VOLT something it is not willing to take. The other cars might negotiate different levels and find something they can accept.

You might want to look into a large 240v to 120v step-down transformer (3kw at least). You might find that some computer shops have them, or UPS, designed to support larger servers. I run a whole bunch of my computers on large UPSs that take 220/240 in and provide 110v out. Then you might be able to test with the 120v that came with the Volt and try setting it at 8amps.

The European portable EVSE (supplied with the Volt/Ampera) operates at 10A or 6A as the standard "fuse" (breaker) is typically 13A
So I'm wondering if Proton Joe isnt just attempting to use the North American EVSE (Delphi?) with some sort of plug adapter?
In any case he is spamming pretty much every charging related thread...
I've PM'd him requesting he simply create a NEW thread
