Default Detroit Free Press "outs" the Cadillac ELR

Last night I was reading articles on the new Detroit Free Press iOS app ( http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/detro...388953042?mt=8 ) and I came across and interesting tidbit from the Cadillac XTS announcement for China. He said they would produce the XTS there, and "Cadillac will also sell the ELR luxury electric coupe in China in late 2013 or early 2014, Akerson said.
Does anybody find this information really interesting. I noticed that the thread started last week by ziv contained no official information that we knew of.
so there you go, sounds like Akerson is bullish on the Voltec platform... except when he is not.
    Here is the article: http://www.freep.com/article/2012042...built-in-China

Also take a look at the related articles that mention the Volt going on sale there last month, and other plans in China regarding Cadillac and Chevrolet.

GM would be wise to have the ELR available by Jan of 2014. A lot of Volts will be coming off their 3-year leases starting then, and given the average income of Volt buyers, getting them into the ELR would be smart capture into a higher profit vehicle. Same goes for having a significant enhancement of the Volt in time for MY2014, to capitalize on Volt owner loyalty.

There is nothing wrong with selling Volts or ELRs in China; you have the Chevy Volt, the Opel Ampera and the right hand drive Vauxhall version being sold in Europe; you also have the Australian version of the Volt.

The world is becoming a whole lot smaller as we speak and if China insists that those cars be manufactured in China, it is a huge market that you cannot ignore............for the same reason the Germans and Japanese and Koreans look to both export to and manufacturing in North America.

+1 on that. I will definitely be looking at the ELR when my lease finishes up in Dec 2014.
