    Question Illinois - MSO Question

    Hello,
I am in Illinois. I am looking to purchase a Volt. I requested a copy of the MSO which the dealer provided. The MSO has a different out-of-state dealer listed. The dealer I am buying the car from is located in Illinois though. This car must of been a dealer trade. Will this cause any problems when I request the Illinois state rebate? Illinois requires the car be purchased in-state so I just wanted to make sure an out-of-state MSO is OK.

    I think you'll be OK.

I bought my 2012 Volt in 2011 from a Georgia dealer (I live in Georgia) who got the car from a California dealer. I got the $7500 tax credit on my 2011 taxes, and the IRS has not come looking for me yet.

you should also get a bill of sale or statement from the dealer who you are buying from to prove that you bought the car in state.
here it is, my thoughts for "new to you" volt (2011 to 2015) owners, right or wrong, in one post....:

My car was acquired from a Michigan dealer. I didn't give it a thought. I sent in my paperwork and got the refund.

The MCO/MSO is paperwork the dealer submits when they title your car. You shouldn't have to submit it with your tax forms. I'm told by the one who submitted our forms that we only had to submit form 8936:

You'll find instructions for the Illinois EV rebate (10%) here:

More info is here, including an EVSE rebate:

And there's a forum thread here:

You won't need the MSO for the Illinois rebate. Just submitted mine a couple if months ago.

You will be fine...I too, bought a Michigan car from an Illinois dealer. The bill of sale is what the state will need. The original state the car was sent to made no difference. Enjoy your car and your rebate!
