    Default Charger Disconnect Alarm Warning

I've discovered that when you disconnect the Volt from a Charger while it's locked the alarm will go off a few seconds later. I suppose this is to prevent someone from removing your volt from a charger without your knowledge or permission. While I appreciate the intent, I'd rather not wake up some of my neighbors if/when I forget to unlock the Volt before I disconnect it.

It would be nice if it gave two low warning honks, similar to the "Happy Honk" you get when you plug it in. So that you can unlock the car before the alarm goes off.

I don't think you will be forgetting again, it changes behavior quickly, we've all been there at one time or the other...you don't want any delay if someone is trying to steal your charging cord...

This feature can be disabled in the setting menu of the car if you have a 2012 onwards, for 2011's you can have the dealer disable it.

Your last poll option is what you can already do.

sort of a non issue as you can set it on/off.

AND if you set it off - you can still get a text message and/or a e-mail.

Mine got reset to ON after the battery bracket update last week so I too got reminded of why I turned it OFF the first day I got the car.

Default It happened to me Sunday morning

Funny, I returned the Volt demo I was testing for a week Sunday morning, and it happened to me. I think I woke up a few neighbors.

All and all it was a good week with the car. The highs were 42 EV miles earlier in the week, the lows were about 34 EV miles on Sunday, when the weather went south of 50 degrees.

This is a fantastic car! It was very fun to drive. I cannot say more about it. I would recommend it to anyone. I personally have a few things to work out though before I could ever get in one permanently. I have some back issues and plantar fasciitis problems which were made worse by my seat and foot position. I think the back issue could be resolved by a better lumbar support. The foot problem is an issue with any car I drive right now, a little more with the Volt. Sucks to get old!

We've asked GM to disarm the cord alarm by key proximity in addition to door unlock:

No idea if they'll do it for the future models and retrofit it for the existing ones. Hope they do.

Poll is about preference and a few choices is not bad but not critical. I learned quickly and left it enabled.

I drive my volt mostly with no feet.. except when I hit a full stop. CC in L and when you want to go faster I use the increment speed and when I want to slow I decrement and when I want to break I can just disengage. No fine motor control of foot needed. I could do it with a cast on.

    @ Andrew00,

In the 2012 Volt, the Charge Cord Theft Alert can be disabled:

    5-60 Owner's Manual

This allows the charge cord theft alert to be turned on or off:

    1. Press the Vehicle Settings menu.

    2. Select Comfort and Convenience

    3. Turn the Charge Cord Theft Alert feature on or off.

    4. Press Back to return to the previous menu.

For me, it's not a consistent rule. For vandalism purposes, I want the alarm to go off. However, if I am charging in a public station for a long period of time then I can understand if the charge cord is unplugged so that another may use it.

Best case would be a connector standard that locks during the charging process, but then unlocks upon charging completion. The alarm could be reserved for cutting the cord. But that's nothing for GM to solve just in the Volt.
