I just purchased a new Volt, 500 miles no gas used yet.
Everyone who comes for a drive with me wants one, but have never really seen one , nor seen a commerical for one. I had a 2004 and 2007 Prius before the Volt, this car is way beyond the Prius in every way including quality.
I think it is time for GM to start pushing the adds for this car.
    what do you think

Given the quality of the marketing they're probably better off not doing it! LOL

They are in fact doing some nice things. They have an extended test drive program which should prove useful and no doubt are using social media and so forth. A car this different poses unique issues.

Every single person I talk to about it, even engineer types who you'd think would be up on such things, have gross misconceptions about the car. Very few people actually know how far it goes or that it can also run off of gas, or that no, I won't actually have to replace my battery pack after five years.

Then I let them drive it, and everyone's response is "holy crap, this is a nice car."

However, they walk away saying they think the car is great, but they're glad it's me "taking the risk on it" and not them. Public perception has a long way to go if this car is going to be a long term success.

The commercials need to spend at least a few seconds and just state the always-available gas engine with 40mpg and 300-mile range, plus the "first 40 miles" battery pack that you get when you plug it in, and emphasize that you don't have to plug it in.

I've seen most of the Volt commercials, and I agree that they do not fully explain the basic concept behind the car. I also dislike the "more car than electric" slogan. In my mind, electric is more "car" than a gas car, considering the torque/response/efficiency and advanced engineering. (Of course, test-driving a Tesla Roadster may have colored my opinion on that front, but the Volt and Leaf fully support that claim regardless).
