It's my understanding that the heating and air conditioning system is to be electrically driven. It just occurred to me that this could allow the HVAC system to be programed or remote started while the vehicle is still plugged into the charger to warm up or cool off the vehicle prior to driving off. If done while still plugged in, this has no impact on electric driving range with very little additional utility use.
Many people have remote starters on their conventional cars to accomplish this. I personally don't like remote starting on a conventional car because of the extra fuel consumption. I really hate starting and warming up the car in the winter just to clear the ice and snow off in the winter. I like the idea of doing it from the AC outlet at lower cost.
