I wish that instead of the dealer adding 0.7 gallons of gas to my already full Volt, I could have gotten a top-off in my rental. I'd actually forgotten how expensive gas is.

I wonder how long the tail is on the expected electric miles calculation. I got a three mile boost after the upgrade and the weather here hasn't changed much for weeks. As for my driving, I nurse the EV mileage less since they put a charger in at work a few weeks ago.

I took ours in a few weeks ago. I said I would only do that if I could have a Volt as a loaner. They agreed to give us a 2011 Volt demo. Normally, I have to just take whatever Enterprise GM rental is on hand at the time, but I wasn't going to settle for that given the reason I was turning in the Volt. It took two days once they started. They had to order new gloves because their certified GM gloves were over a year old and have to be certified every year.

They certainly didn't wash our Volt. I don't think they put any gas in it. Not sure I would have had it returned with a charged battery if I didn't leave a msg requesting that it be returned charged. I checked my phone app and it was only charged after I left msg. They didn't get the charge cord in until the next day. They had a driver deliver it the following day, but it does have an orange cord. Someone here posted that the new one has a black cord?? On the other hand, I returned their Volt with less gas in it, so we are even in my mind.

I originally was just not going to do it, but I wouldn't want my insurance company or the leasing company to say they weren't going to cover something because I didn't do the suggested modifications. I am in the "don't fix it if it isn't broke" camp normally. But, only need one car fire that could have been prevented with this fix to cause me to have the service done. Meanwhile, seen a few Cruze fires while driving reported, but no one talks about those.

I've decided to have the battery safety mod done and any other open maintenance items done on my 2011, and plan to drop it off at the dealer on Thursday. Do any of you that have had this procedure done on your cars have any information or special tips I should know before I take mine in ? I think I will also get the tires rotated........Thanks .

Well, mine went in yesterday afternoon. Was told that they would fully charge it, fill it with gas (lucky me was down to a quarter tank) and "detail" (basically a wash and vacuum) it. Also mentioned they were going to replace the 110v charge cord.

So, hopefully by end of day Thursday, or at least Friday I'll have it back. We'll see from there.

Almost forgot to mention they did provide a 2012 Volt as the loaner/rental.

Oh man, the cards fall where they may! The battery work went as planned, no issues. This morning the 2011 was being driven back to us, picked up and screw in the tire, low pressure sensor goes off. Driver call back to dealer home base from a convenience store, service manager sends him to Discount tire about 2 blocks away. Then the service manager calls me to inform the drop off is going to be late.

Then I just had to tell him the good news. A week ago I was in Discount Tire getting new rubber for my dry rotted Colorado tires (one split wide open just sitting), 15K miles in 6 years. Asked the Discount guy about warranty on both the Volt sets of tires. He cut me a great deal and I took it. Told the service manager to give them my phone number, Discount tire warranty work on the Volt tire.

As long as they didn't have to replace the tire, you're good. If they did replace the tire, I don't think you have a certificate on that tire anymore; I believe the certificate is good for one replacement only (but whose to say which tire got replaced if you have a later problem).

I had this done recently, it did not seem to help (or hurt) the car. Neither did the new charger. It did however leave the car with a pungent and strong stink of greasy shop. And while that has aired out, I also think that it marked the end of my new car smell. Which is unfortunate and disappointing.

The electric car will win one day, not because of global warming or enviro-anything, but because it is simply a superior driving and ownership experience. You read it here first.

    Ok, so an update.

For those of you who have had a good experience with this, I'm envious. I can't say yet that I've had a bad experience because I've basically had no experience yet, that matters.

As mentioned previously, Monday afternoon I dropped it off after the previous week of email exchanges basically telling my dealer we could do it next week, or the next, or next, whenever "YOU'RE READY". So they tell me to bring it in Monday and they'll "get the ball rolling".

It's been sitting in their shop two full days now and the ONLY thing they've done is charge it. THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS, and there's no guarantee they'll be in today!

You know, there's several ways to look at this. I understand the cost of inventory and the cost of returning unused inventory but obviously my idea of YOU'RE READY and theirs aren't the same. It's not like this is an unknown warranty issue that they have to diagnose and determine what's wrong and then order parts. THEY KNOW WHAT THEY NEED. How difficult would it have been to stroll to the parts counter and confirm they have all parts for the WELL KNOWN battery reinforcement upgrade BEFORE telling you to bring it in. Jeez

Yes, they did provide me a Volt loaner/rental but didn't bother to clean it up from the last individual(s) who drove it. Rather messy. But I still would rather be driving my car, than theirs.

I was on the fence to begin with. While I know GM has every faith in the solution their engineers came up with, I unfortunately don't have the same faith in their dealer representatives to implement it completely the way it's intended. My Volt has basically been flawless for almost 19,000 miles now and it scares H$%L out of me with what "possibly" could go wrong. Squeaks, rattles, more, etc.

I basically told them yesterday if the parts didn't show up today to just get it ready for me to return theirs and pick mine up. And I'm still on the fence about this decision.

    Sad
