Unhappy Water in rear storage compartment

After pulling out the 110V charger this past weekend, I found a small amount of standing water on the right rear under floor storage compartment. After wringing out the rear compartment cover and using a few paper towels, its dry again. Any obvious sources (It hasn't been in the rain with the back lid open) that I should check? It has been snowy and rainy for awhile around here.

    Thanks
    Roger

    Hi Roger,

You have a leak; I would take the car to the dealership. Most likely culprit is hatch/deck lid rubber.

When I wash the Volt, I use cotton towels to dry the sides of the hatch door as well as, the hatch door frame (top, sides, and bottom). If the hatch door frame rubber is bad, some of this water could come in. I also towel dry around the other doors, and under the hood.

To find the leak, you can sit in the back with a flashlight, and have someone else drive the car through a car wash.

There is a rubber bumper on each bottom corner of the hatch. I think they can be adjusted in or out. Perhaps one or both are too far out, preventing the hatch from fully sealing on the gasket?

I too towel dry all those areas, as well as the gas and electric ports. I also wipe down the gaskets and once a month apply a little silicone protectant to them to keep them clean and squeek-free. I do this because I like the car looking like it came off the showroom floor. But you'll also quickly notice any issues.

Another thing to check: Most cars have a drain hole within the gasket track for the rear hatch. If that hole becomes plugged it can cause the water to go elsewhere...also that drain hold likely attaches to a hose which runs the water to a safe location on the bottom of the vehicle. If the hose wasn't installed correctly, it could be leaking into an interior area.

Do you ever use that 110V charger outside? In that rain/snow? Could that track in some water/melted snow?
