    Default Volt Spirituality

The entire Volt experience has had repercussions in many areas of my life over the 2 months I've been driving mine. The serenity I've received from the smooth ride and the changed driving habits has spread to the rest of my life. I have leased solar panels in my house which means my energy consumption in much more in line with my values and ideals. I am calmer in my relationships and in facing challenges in my work (I'm a minister/Federal Prison Chaplain as my name suggests) and am more open to receive the grace that is present in driving my Volt, in fellowship/relationship and in nature. I'm curious if anyone else has found a deeper, healthier or more sensitive spirituality as a result of the Volt.

I have noticed that I drive more calmly and am more relaxed. I think I drive more safely. It seems like I notice more impatient drivers in other IC engine vehicles. Because the car is so quiet, I play music in the car. I could not do that in my previous cars due to engine and road noise. Since I have had the Volt, I have increased my music collection and have begun to appreciate baroque music for the first time. I am sharing music experiences with a colleague at work who I have worked with for over ten years and until very recently I did not know he was into classical music.

One of the main reasons I bought a Volt is the serene, smooth, quiet experience. Maybe you could call this spirituality.

My wife has compared driving the Volt to a spa treatment.

How is the road noise for everyone? I noticed the quiet ride on a test drive when driving through the lot and on the side streets but when I hit the traffic, still noticed a good amount of road noise, I'm wondering if one of the windows was down?

Most of the highways here have rubberized asphalt on them and generally are very quite. It is the ICE vehicles that interrupt my quiet environment.

e-reverend, thanks for starting this thread as it is something I also sense too with the VOLT. It allows me to have a little more peace, serenity and reduces stress too.

The quietness and freedom from a conventional ICE vehicle noise and vibration is what I do appreciate. Using my nav screen to find and take off the beaten track routes at times to shorten the route. Short cuts with slower speeds and less traffic in which ICE cars would not take since they need to get to the highest speed roads to max out their mpg.

And then one of the biggest things is avoidance of the gas pump line insanity. I love the plugging in to get my energy, so less time consuming and easy at your home or a public charger instead of sitting in a gas station line. I just have to laugh thinking about how I used to be one of those that were totally dependent on the gas pump. Hitting the gas station and the "stress" of deciding and seeking out the line with the lowest wait time. Then sitting in line and waiting and likely watching to see if I really did pick the right line, etc.

But the VOLT is really a great mind/body relaxing machine. It is one of those features that would be hard to market since many do not understand the mind and body connection in life. But if any Yoga, meditation, or Reiki people are out there, the VOLT is a perfect car to compliment your life!

I get the same feeling, its strange. I have started to listen to more classical music and I generally feel more relaxed when coming to work. It does make me think about all the other noice pollution and how it does add to strees levels.

Yeah, I'm glad this topic came up. I'm much less of a jerk driving my Volt - I let people in, I merge early, I drive only a little bit over the limit. I really dig the quiet, it is quite serene (and I don't have to yell SERENITY NOW anymore )

I think some people are finally becoming adults

I've had the serenity bug for years now, more or less. But ever since losing my mom last Sunday (6-days ago) - serenity will continue to be central to how I live from now on. A Volt purchase may have to wait a while for me but I'm still going to be a cheer leader every week.

    bonaire,

I hope your opportunity for a Volt will come. As important as a Volt can be, there are things in life far more important than any car or other object. Sorry for your loss.

I was the guy going 90 in the left hand lane. Now I am the guy going exactly the speed limit, not a mile faster, on the interstate. I can't say this necessarily makes me a better driver. From my personal experience, when I drive fast, my senses are heightened and reaction time fast. Driving slower, I am more relaxed, and as a result, I don't feel I will react as fast.
