It's already here, of course - but it's not focused.

VOLT # B-1276
Over the decades I've owned a few new cars, and the Volt has been the most trouble-free of all.
But there's a lot of critique tied to politics, and some of that results in negative BS.
Someone sent me a politically-motivated email calculating the Volt's performance based on electricity at $0.50 per kWh and 30 miles on a charge, then 30mpg on the engine. Another note talked about the dangers of lithium batteries - referring to laptop battery failures of a decade ago and calling the Volt a bomb. No comparison to the explosive energy in a typical gas tank, of course... Politics.
But reality - which has little to do with politics - is that the car just works.

i've only purchased two new cars before the Volt -- a 1983 Toyota Celica followed by a 1997 version. They were pretty much trouble-free outside of normal maintenance.
My Volt has had "teething problems" that these other cars did not. Nothing show-stopping, but not entirely clean either. I've got the noise issue with the struts, my interior lighting nearly always goes to full brightness and I cannot adjust it, the brakes have an odd feel/noise at stops from low speeds (like when I'm backing out my driveway or a parking spot), and I've had one of the tire sensors lose its signal a couple of times and alert me to have it serviced.
