Default Chevy Volt Cost Calculator with 10 Year Cost

FYI... I've added a 10 year cost and horizontal bar chart to the Chevy Volt Cost Calculator.

Also, I've reduced the average EV range from 35 to 30 miles to compensate for 30% degradation over a 10 year period.

My local dealers are using this to ease the sticker shock.

Please let me know if you see anything that needs corrected.

Very well done techtom, very clean and easy to understand graphical interface.

I've just done mine with a web spreadsheet, it's in french, but it is fully editable and you can export it as an Excel file.

You can change any cells and /or formula, directly from the web page.

In my case, in Quebec Canada where gas is about 5$ a gallon, I get my breakeven before 3 years is complete, compared to a 28 000$ gas car !!

    Thanks!

    Wow... $5 per gallon!

I like how you show the return on investment for each year.

Cool, just printed out two comparisons both in the favor of the Volt.

    Camry vs Volt base

    Volt $42600, Camry $43000

    And

Audi A4 Base vs Volt Loaded

    Volt $48608, Audi A4 $55651

Further this does not account for savings when driving the Volt on the Gas Generator compared to the other car or the fact that maintenance most likely will be cheaper overall.

Ouch! It doesn't like cash purchases. Or perhaps it was user error, I'll put in 1 payment which was likely the correct input.

Start moving the average price of gas over $4, and the practicality of an electric car is very apparent.

I'd keep the electric range at 35 miles, not that it matters. You're guaranteed not to see any degradation for 8 years and my guess is that, unless you live in a very hot place, you won't see any degradation for a few more years after that.

techtom, I would suggest putting in the inflation rate of Fuel and Electricity over the same period. I did some online research of both of those and found it to be 6.55% per year compounded for gas (I looked at a 20 year and 40 year range of data) and then for Electricity it was 0.83% per year compounded. When you do the math with energy inflation it is even more amazing. I even did a what if, took a year when the electricity went up 10% to simulate a clean energy plan like clean coal etc. And the VOLT still just got better with time.

    Food for thought.

Using Toyota's web site, I can see $34K MSRP. But I can't configure a $43K Camry no matter how hard I try (not that I tried all that hard :- ). Typo?
