Volt buy back question

buyback vehicles may be sold at auction, used by GM for testing or possibly crushed.

Crushing makes absolutely no sense. I would hope GM would install the fix and sell these vehicles to fleets or at least use internally.

Don't panic over the word crush. The dealer was referring to what can happen to lemon buybacks in general and not what would likely occur to perfectly running Volts. However, once a car is returned in this process, the car is labeled as a buyback or lemon, so value can be affected to the point of where the manufacturer might not resell it.

IMHO, GM should use the buyback Volts to help train the technicians to install the battery modification. The Volt is already at the dealership or they could quickly transport them to GM training facilities.

I'm not sure how many cars we are talking about here. Akerson told congress that he bought one of them for his family, and drove it to the hearing. (guess he learned from the private jet fiasco in the bailout.)

I don't think GM has ever gotten specific about how many Volts it has bought back. But I know they mentioned that a couple dozen people requested for information. For some reason the number 33 sticks in my head. But how many people actually took advantage of it? If I were a betting man, I'd bet more than 10 less than 30. And probably less than 5 of those people took advantage of it because of legitimate safety concerns. The others just due to basic buyer's remorse.

The buyback program ended. The problem has been resolved. There is no reason for GM to offer a buyback option at this point.

I do not have the exact figure of how many people took advantage of the buy back program. However, the number of people who requested to have their vehicle bought back or asked for a loaner vehicle for the duration of the investigation is roughly 250.

GM keeps it! When the question was asked, here is the response from Chevrolet:

"The tax credit will not be returned to the federal government. This was an incentive used to reduce what you paid for the vehicle. Since Chevrolet is refunding you the full price but you received the tax credit reducing what was actually paid for the vehicle, Chevrolet will be retaining that as it does any other incentive that reduces the purchase price paid for the vehicle."

So in other words, GM just profited $7500 and gets your car back for what you paid for it minus wear and tear.
This does not sound ethical to me.
