Anyone know if it can be removed?

They are installed by the dealers. If you don't have a car yet, then tell the dealer NOT to install it. If you already own the car, have them remove the bracket and plug the holes......every little bit of drag you can reduce will help with range....and better appearance.

It can be removed. But there will be holes left over that you'll need to have plugged. I think a lot of dealers in states where a front license plate isn't required will sell them without the bracket. So there aren't holes. But I'm in Minnesota. Where it's law. Can't even have your plate on your front dash. Has to be affixed to the front of your car.

Front plates are required here. I asked my dealer to leave it off and I'd install it myself if need be. I ended up getting a ticket after about a month. I installed the front plate and it required two holes to be drilled into the front facia. I wish I didn't have to deface the front of the car but what are you gonna do...

I attached mine with push pin body panel fasteners so it can be easily removed as needed. http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread....-License-Frame

The license plate holder is riveted to the front bumper. You can grind off the heads of the rivets, and then use a bumper plug to fill the holes in the bumper.

They probably have the Volt color (they have the silver, at least).

Here's a picture from the bumper plug website:

If you order your car instead of buying it off the lot, the best bet is to tell your dealer not to install the bracket in the first place. That way you won't have the two holes drilled in the front of your car.

I purchased silver plugs from them and they look good. I remember paying more than $24.99 though. I am running the risk of a fix it ticket but that plate/bracket was so ugly!

I bought my car in MN but live in Michigan. So of course they had that ugly front bracket on there. They were not wanting to remove it so I did myself when I got home. They drill 4 holes thru the bumper it's quite ugly. When I took it off there were all sorts of scratches on the bumper from the bracket it self. I called my VA and asked about it and within an hour I had an appt with my local dealer and as we speak they are plugging and repainting the bumper as a warranty job. Once again I am beyond pleased with GM customer service. Such a difference from Ford. I had a lemon law with them and what an ordeal that was. Anyway I'm looking forward to taking my gasser loaner back and getting my volt back in my hands with a clean bumper.
