Default US Leaf sales pass 10,000, Nissan plans more EV models

The new EV missed its first-year sales target by only a couple of weeks, despite the fact that it’s still not available in all 50 states (but is expected to be by March). The company has three more EVs in the pipeline... Newswire >

More power to them. I personally wouldn't buy one, but anything which lowers the demand for oil is a good thing at this point IMHO. Better a Leaf than a Sentra or an Altima, LOL.

Default Leaf sales going down, Volt sales going up.

The fact that Volt sales numbers have been going up for months while the Leaf sales have been going down is very interesting to me. Even anti-Volt articles about a nearly non-existent problem haven't stopped Volt sales from climbing since GM started building more last summer. What will be critical is how Volt sales have handled the long production shutdown this past month. I think sales will continue to slowly grow, to perhaps 1700 Volts sold this month, but if GM had continued to build more Volts and had priced them lower than the current MSRP, they would have sold a lot more.
GM would be wise to learn a lesson from Toyota on how to sell expensive halo vehicles, i.e. give a couple flavors to allow more people to find the one they like. If the Volt came up with an MPV and a Volt SS in the next few months (unrealistic but it would have been nice) they would sell a lot more Volts.

It is curious to me as well. It seems a lot of the LEAF owners are in just a couple states and primarily in CA. It will be interesting to see how the USA sales continue beyond early adopters.

Non-USA sales may be a different matter. I think they will sell a lot more outside of the USA.

More power to Nissan and the Leaf. The more EVs out there, the sooner the acceptance by the general public. The perfect solution for many households is a Leaf or other BEV for about town communting and an extended range EV like the Volt for commuting and for trips beyond the battery range.

Sign me up for a Volt SS! It's already killer on twisty mountain roads, and that's from a guy who also owns things like Camaros.

I read that the Leaf production slowdown was due to factory slowdown similar to what the Volt had during June.
