Can someone who lives out of state buy a Volt in Tennessee, get the rebate, and take the Volt back to their home state?

I think the first year's budget in CA was $5 million. It got wiped out in about a week, LOL.

    From the article:
"So far, only the Nissan Leaf is approved for the rebates, but the Chevy Volt and other models will be added to the program if and when the manufacturers request it."

Somebody needs to comment on this one. Why has GM not 'requested' it? Is there no one here at GM-Volt from Tennessee who can shed some light on this seemingly big deal?

In PA, the rebate hasn't run out yet. Covers any PiHV such as the Volt, Leaf, Fisker, BMW activeE or Pip (among others). They pay $3500 for the first 500 rebates requested.

From TN. Didn't know about any rebates in the state when I bought my Volt. Have no idea why GM would not request it.

Only the Nissan Leaf was being considered for the rebate in 2011. However, now I'm hearing that the Volt will be allowed as well. I called my Chevy dealer and they don't know anything about it. My Volt advisor recommend speaking with my CPA... so they didn't know. And if it is availabe, I'm still waiting to hear if the rebate will be retroactive for us early adopters in Tennessee.

Hmm. Sounds like the reason only 1/4 of the money has been claimed is because so few know about it, or its not exactly clear which cars qualify. No surprised the Leaf is covered, since they will be (are being?) built there.
