Cool Newbie checking in to say "Hi"

    Hello there:
As a brand new Volt owner I wanted to introduce myself. Just got it yesterday afternoon & only have about 20 miles on it, but I love it already ! I traded in my C6 corvette (and astounded all my friends ! ), and now need to try and control that right foot of mine.

Driving green was not my reason for purchasing, tho I think its an admirable choice. I am retired, and the vette was a once in a lifetime thing...everyone needs to have at least one Corvette in their lifetime. I just finally acknowledged to myself that it really was not practical for me as I only drive about 4000 miles a year, and all of that is short trips for groceries, Home Depot, etc which is why I believe the Volt is the car for me. It will take some training on my part to tame my driving style to this new car to get the full battery mileage it can deliver. Going from 450+ HP to 149 takes a bit of adjustment.

I look forward to learning more about my car through this forum as I did through the Corvette forums.

Congratulations on the new Volt. My wife and I are both retired and drive mostly on short trips as you do. If you haven't already, you might want to consider a 240V charger. We're about 8 miles from town so a typical shopping trip uses about 19-20 miles on the battery. It takes about 2 hrs to recharge the battery so we're ready to go again that day in almost no time at all.

Congrats. Sounds like you shoudl be driving in Sport+L. If you are doing short trips, who needs to worry about range. Have fun with it. You can worry about range on the days you need it, so a little practice is good, but once you have the skills down, on short trips just punch it. Surprising pickup in the Volt (though I'm sure you saw some of that in test driving :-)

Congratulations on the Volt! My eyes about popped out of my head when I saw you traded in your 'Vette. But I can definitely understand. It makes more sense, and I'm sure you'll have more fun than you might imagine driving this car.

Definitely get a 240v charging station. You'll do a lot more shorter trips on electric with it. You can even still get free ones from SPX Solutions. Check out their webpage https://www.homecharging.spx.com/Vol...?id=29&menu=21. I haven't gotten mine done yet but I had them graciously come out for a survey to hash over some install ideas and it should be getting scheduled shortly.

If you need help, people here will help you out. No question is a dumb question when it comes to something this new. You may not even realize how unique the car is until you spend some time with it. It's something!

    Welcome!
Yes the Volt is a practical car, but don't forget it's fun! You can have about 30 miles of FUN without gasoline!

Put it in sport mode and drive it like a CAR. Show the world you're not just another OCD eco-weenie, drafting semis at ten feet, doing that ridiculous pulse & glide thing, and driving 53 on a 65 interstate.

Go out there, turn off the traction control, mash that pedal, and show the world electric doesn't mean boring. Get a felony grade speeding ticket* without using fossil fuels. Wear out the front tires. Scare some kid with a fartcan muffler. Stay in front of the Cummins pickup without a muffler. Pass a Mercedes. Make the yellow ball of acceleration anger your friend.

Yeah, its not a Corvette, but that doesn't mean you can't try.

Whatever you do, just don't catch the thing on fire.

*Now.... don't go out and commit a felony just cause of what you read here. There are some states where it only takes more than 15 over to get a felony level ticket. Some provinces in Canada can even seize your vehicle if you be dissin' a Mountie. Yeah, I read that on a motorcycle internet somewhere. Can't provide chapter and verse.
