Default Regen braking messes with your left side of your brain?

After driving my Silverado diesel the last few days the one thing that really is messing with my head is the stopping distance/time when I let off the pedal. I guess I got so friggn use to the Volt driving in "L" with heavy regen braking and my timing at intersections and stoplights etc. were down pat perfectly.

Now in my truck, I've been letting off the accelerator pedal and expecting this lag to start (which of course it doesn't) so then my brain tells me to depress the brake. hmmm, never thought I could fool myself that easily. I do find myself entering the stop faster b/c of this lag I now have. Thanks Chevy Volt, you did change my driving habits but now I'm spoiled!

Now I want regen braking on all my vehicles!
GM please make a voltec diesel pickup truck someday, please.

Anybody else have this left-side brain effect?

"Now I want regen braking on all my vehicles!"

It won't be long. In 2006, they called it 'mild hybrid' and nobody wanted it. Now the PC term appears to be 'stop/start technology' and they act like it's the greatest (and newest) thing around. From what I can tell, we'll get some regen in most new vehicles within a few years.

You, my friend, are Driving While Volted (DWV). I even reach for the gear shift in my other car (I drive my Volt like a manual transmission, in D and then downshift to L for stops).

Yeah, I was driving my Silverado today and I kept cussing at myself for not letting off the gas soon enough rolling up to stop lights. I have come to HATE stepping on the brake pedal, LOL.

Why diesel? If you're able to stay mostly electric, the fuel shouldn't matter. Diesel's traditional strengths in towing and longevity will be far less relevant in an EREV, but the costs will still be there. If they get HCCI sorted out, or go lean burn like the original Insight, gas engines can even get to diesel efficiency.

Not that I'm opposed to diesel, mind. I had a TDI Jetta for 6 years (averaged 49.8 mpg,) and enjoyed it. Unless it's designed to run on Bio, though, I'm not seeing the benefits to justify the cost of a diesel range extender.

I'm not sure the efficiency is there, and it isn't diesel, but VIA motors is selling EREV (series only AFAICT) Silverados to fleet customers this year, and supposedly to the general public next year. Should be interesting.

Personally, what I'd most like to see is a PHEV or EREV convertible. Not sure I could afford one, though...

I'd say ya need an exhaust brake on your truck. The noise would be anoying but you wouldn't have to touch your brakes as much... but then again you don't really gain anything but less brake ware and noise.... scratch that, just drive your Volt! LOL

Yeah I have a Colorado with a five speed and I find my self downshifting to do the compression braking.

Looks like a chvy with voltec tech. I see you can select the 40 mile range which is probably the same battery we have. At 79K I'm going to hold on that one

I like where this is going however!
