It's probably me but I don't see the advantage of hard wiring an iPad to a car.

Are you talking about the tablets? They look detachable to me - hopefully they're just tablet docks? The "nav" screen might not be, but the functionality of it all is already so close to that of a tablet that they might as well go all the way.
And it'd make more sense for it all to be Android-based, which is far more practical than iOS.... ;3
