Default Volt drivers save 1,300,000 gallons of Gas in 2011-12

I'm terrible about writing headlines, but basically if there are 6000 Volts on the road... they would save the US from 1,300,000 gallons of refined Premium fuel in a given year.
    Assumptions:
    • fleet averages 70% driving in EV mode
    • typical volt drivers use their cars similar to voltstats.com drivers
    • 70% is also a yearly average... better range in spring/fall but more road trips
    • grid power isn't source from oil burning power plant
Granted this is just a wild guess... but still exciting nonetheless when we consider that 6,000 will quickly turn into 60,000 over the next 12 months.
This could be a good billboard for Chevy. A solar powered counter estimating the fuel savings from the entire fleet of Volts out there!

I am excited for the future of our automotive industry!!

Save a soldier, drive a Volt. That should be the tag line.... people wouldn't use the Volt as a political pawn anymore....

I think that you're being very conservative. I drove my Volt over 16K miles last year on less than 100 gallons. My last car would have used over 500 gallons. 6000x400=2,400,000. Maybe I'm a bit of an outlier, but I would guess that the number could easily be over 2 million.

i don't mean to be critical. It's a great idea and thank you for it. I'm just saying that, if anyone challenges your number, you are on totally safe ground.

No offense taken. We crowd source And are better for it. Yes, u are correct, comparing it with vehicles getting less mpg, the volt is even better, and the numbers could be higher. My assumption is based on 37 mpg.. What if we used 22mpg instead? Much higher!
And yes! Love the tag line! Altough I might suggest:
Save a soldier buy a domestic, made in america.
Save 2 soldiers, buy a volt.

If its a physical thing, you should give it to a neighbor or co-worker..
that would really get them talking about the Volt. if its on your card (or phone number, like my store), just tell a friend to use it..
