Default CEL after 1 month and 1000 miles

    Hello all,

I haven't driven my volt for about a week, I started her up and noticed a check engine light on and a reduced power message on the display, ICE running continuously. (plugged in as I was conditioning the cabin) Big blue on star button is now my friend. Advisor came on line and ran a diagnostic, informed me that there were 25 fault codes all pertaining to the battery pack. I think she mentioned one that pertained to individual cells within the pack itself. Range was showing zero miles and the battery display on the center screen was greyed out. I noticed a few days prior that my remote link was showing a reduced battery range. I didn't think much of it and checked it again this morning and it showed a range of zero miles. 240 volt charger showing a good status, green light on the dash flashing slowly. I guess the dealership will be picking up the volt in the morning. Anybody else experience this?

    John

I haven't heard of something similar, though we have had a couple packs replaced on the forum (out of thousands of cars over more than a year.) Sounds like an initial issue in the pack that QC missed. I'm sure you'll be on the way shortly with a new pack under warranty.

Is this a 2011 model by chance?
If so have you had the software update yet?
Did you ever have to boost it for a dead 12V battery??

    Hi John,

Was the dealer able to pick your Volt up this morning? If so, did they offer you alternate transportation while they take a look at your Volt? Keep us updated and let us know what they find.

Dealer has picked up the car, no offer of a loaner. Not sure if they will
Get a chance to look at it today.

Ok thanks. With all those DTCs its often the result of a dead 12V battery and/or a jump start.
Barring that the shear number of DTCs you have is more likely caused by something like a bad connection or grounding issue.
Hope your back in your baby real quick!

    @ John,

Will you need a loaner while they have it? If so, I can have an advisor get into contact with your dealer and get you set up.

    Thanks,

Dealer is arranging a rental for me. No words yet on what is wrong with the car. Thanks!

Well the service department has been in communication with the engineers and suspect the entire battery pack will need to be replaced. After a long conversation with my Volt advisor and a very nice lady by the name of Heidi, GM will be purchasing my Volt back. I certainly have mixed feelings about this but I feel it is for the best. I can't say enough good things about GM and their customer service! I will certainly be purchasing a different vehicle from them. I feel it would be best to wait a year or two more before taking the leap and getting another Volt.
