Charger noise?

I am planning my 240V charger installation for my new Volt. The ideal outside location is on the exterior wall of the master bedroom. I can get the Coulomb CT500 for free under a DOE program. Big question: Does this unit produce any noise when in operation? 60 cycle hum, clicking from internal relays, etc? Thanks for advice from those with this unit. Ditto for the Voltec?

I've not noticed any noise at all from either the Voltec or the SPX chargers. The Volt itself gives a friendly chirp when charging begins but other than some very slight fan noise and cooling pump whirrs (both hardly noticeable) charging is a silent event. I've noticed at some public charging stations, there are clicks when the plug holder unlocks and when the relays kick in to begin charging. I don't know if the Coulomb home units do this.

I've got the GE WattStation and the wall it's mounted on in the garage is a common wall to a bedroom. This unit hums and when the charging starts and stops, a loud switch is thrown. It has created a domestic "situation", so your due diligence will pay off.

I have the CT500 in my garage. There is a hum when charging, but I can't hear the hum from the adjacent room (EVSE mounted on shared wall), only inside the garage. What I can hear from inside is a somewhat loud "thump" from the relay closing. The annoying thing is this happens every 15 minutes or so (I haven't timed it exactly) while waiting for a delayed charge. I think the car is doing some cycle of closing the relay, then not charging and going back to sleep, then waking up & repeating the cycle; I wish it would be smarter about it and only do it when it's time to start. If immediate charging, there is just the one thump as it starts and it's much less of an issue.

I have the SPX Power Xpress and it is silent - the Volt makes all the noise when charging.

Ditto for the Voltec?

My 240V Voltec makes an audible 'snap' or loud click when charging starts. No hum or other noises at all.

All chargers should do that. It's the sound of the relay closing.
