I think it's subject to BCM shutdown after 10? minutes like everything else. It does appear to work if I hit it immediately after turning off the car, before opening the door (not sure if the door matters.) Haven't tried it before turning the car on yet.

It does on mine. I often open the garage door using the Homelink button before I've turned on the car.

Just curious, why do you not want it to work if the car is off?

If someone breaks into the car in the driveway, they have access to your garage.

If someone breaks into your car in the driveway they probably don't mind breaking a window to get into the house either.
    Locks are just a deterrent.

But why give them another option? Anyway, it's really a personal choice and I'm a firm believer of not leaving the opener in the car in the driveway, so I won't be using it then.

It would be nice if it was an option in the menu to have it active or not when the car was off, then we could all be happy!

Why ever park in the driveway? Isn't your EVSE inside the garage, don't you want to leave the Volt inside & plugged in, for temperature management even if it doesn't need to be topped off?

If you feel that strongly about it, don't program the homelink, just take a std remote with you.
