Default Display Bug? Both Gas and Battery icons "greyed out"

So: did my standard "precondition during breakfast" routine. Garage temps in the upper 40's, about 10 degrees warmer than yesterday morning, thanks to a big wet cold front blowing through Seattle.

Unlocked the car, removed the charger plug and closed the door. Got into the car, and the main DIC showed both the Gas and Battery icons were 'greyed out', battery showing 32 miles, gas showing 196.

The drive to work was uneventful as usual, and just for fun, I snapped a pic of the display:

I did try and influence the display to refresh, by using the 'config' button to switch things around, and even trying briefly to switch into mountain mode - thinking that trying to get the display to reread the state of the battery might cause an update, but no joy.

    Anyone seen this before?

    Gramma's gonna kill me!

By "restart" did you mean "reboot"? I'll have to go dig around a bit to figure that one out.

This has happened to me... twice now. Both times everything was fine the next time I turned it on... and it didn't seem to affect anything else, just that both icons were greyed out...

Cool. Nice catch. Nothing better than an interesting display bug without any major consequences. Chuck, have you also seen this when preconditioning?

This sounds like that problem I was having with the backup camera.. It went completely yellow one time with a blue bar going back and forth across the screen slowly.. Turned the car off and back on multiple times and it still did not go away... Went in the house, called the Volt advisor, go back out to the car about 20 minutes later to take a photo for them, and then it never happened again.. I guess some stuff just clears itself up after a period of sitting.

It happened to me once. The problem went away when I started the Volt again. No idea what caused the odd display in the first place.

I had this happen on my Volt once as well. I suspected it had to do with removing my foot from the brake pedal too soon after pressing the power button but I have no hard evidence for this claim.

Ok, so others have seen this, and it appears to be self-correcting. When I went out to get in the Volt to run and grab some lunch, the condition had cleared itself, and the normal battery ( which reminds me of the Warp Core from ST:TNG, of all things... ) had returned.

A problem that resolves itself in a complex system will certainly re-occur.

Now that I think about it... I do believe both of those times I preconditioned...yes.
