Default I did not get the Silver Volt today

Things happened fast and a few unexpected things happened today. I initially was determined not to get a car with NAV because some of the features can't be use when the car is moving. I learned through this forum that OnStar could do it for me while the car was moving which changed my whole opinion of getting the NAV.

I thought that the silver car had the NAV but I was mistaken. I backed out of the deal and at the last minute I found another car with NAV at a different dealer. The car was in white which is an extra cost option but I honestly like silver better. It came down to getting a car in a color that I didn't like as much as silver but getting the NAV. I do happen to like white a lot I just don't like it as much as silver, but if it came down to getting red or black I would have walked away with out any car. The way things worked out I got the more expensive paint and the nave along with some kind of dealer paint protector and downgraded the wheels from polished to regular for a small amount of extra money. The bottom line is I got a different car but I am very happy. This was the very first Volt the dealer sold.

I was disappointed that they did not deliver it with a full charge but this was their first Volt sale so maybe the person doing the prep wasn't aware the car should be delivered with a full charge (it had a full tank of petrol). The car had 18 miles on it when I left the dealer and had 43 miles when I got home which equals 25 miles. When I left the range for electric indicated 20 miles, When I got home the display showed 7 miles remaining. So I drove 25 miles with 7 more available and I started out with 20 available electric miles. I probably drove about 8 to 10 miles between 55 MPH and 65 MPH on I-85, the rest was 30 to 45 MPH on the back roads because I like them better than the interstate. The temps were in the low 70s today in SC so I did not need heat or A/C. The car is sitting in my driveway charging up and I can't wait to drive it tomorrow.

I haven't read the manual yet. One of the first things I tried was to see if they made it idiot proof. I tried to move it while it was plugged in but it won't come out of park when the plug is in.

I guess this car does not have a spare, when I got out the electric plug I noticed there was an electric air pump. I guess you use the pump till you can drive someplace that will repair the tire

Congrats. Your note reads like you're a little conflicted, but when you wake up tomorrow and look out in your garage it will feel like Santa was there. RTFM, as they say, and things will make more sense.

You are correct I was conflicted, I am sure that I would have regretted getting a color that I liked better if it meant giving up the NAV. I like white a lot but I have a silver truck and a silver corvette, a silver Volt would have been nice but not it it meant giving up the NAV

Actually, the air pump has a sealant canister attached to it, but you have the general idea.

The diamond white tri-coat grows on you. (This year there's apparently a true white option for less money as well - Summit White, or some such.) Mine has the ceramic white seat inserts, too - it fits well with the car's yin-yang nature. (Mine actually sorta snuck up on me, too - I was thinking about it for a while, but it happened so suddenly. After a month and ~1000 miles, I have yet to go to a gas station...)

Congrats! Pretty sure you be loving the car soon.

I wanted a volt before anyone knew what they were going to look like. Heck I wanted some kind of electric car way back in the early 1970s then I was sitting in ling for hours to buy a few gallons of gas ( think it was 5 or 10 gallons max and you could only buy on odd or even days) I put the whole thing on hold because I assumed they were in limited supply and hard to get and if available it would be over MSRP. Then a few days ago just for the heck of it I submitted my name to an on line site offering discounts. I was shocked how easy it was to find one but getting one at a good price was a different story. The first dealer would not budge one penny off MSRP and told me other dealer were charging over MSRP. In the space of three las I found a few cars and wound up driving one home today 11/15/11

Welcome to the Volt family. You and hopefully the dogs will be happy.

The manual will help and there is a ton of useful stuff on the forum as well. There is a whole section for new owners with lots of useful stuff.
