I finally got around to using my coworker's android phone to set up alerts and the workaround worked! I can now set and edit alerts on the iPhone app.

I would rip the CDs on to the computer then copy them onto the USB drive and record them from that onto the Volt's HDD. No point in ripping twice (once to the Volt and once to computer).
