I corrected my statement and admitted you were right that Ford had borrowed money from the government, what more do you want? I really don't think I have ever singled Tesla out for taking government...

Actually I find the emotional and occasionally overwrought language from both sides of the Tesla issue tiring. I have my own opinion about Tesla, combine it with $7 and it will get me a cup of coffee...

    Can you say, "Federal Motors"?[/QUOTE]

Ford's total debt is on the order of $90 billion, so let me correct myself: the large majority of Ford's debt is private.

    Don't get too excited

Good news for Tesla, but don't get too excited. Paying back the loan was more about selling stock, not selling cars.

By the way, Ford's debt is all private, they didn't borrow from the government.
  5. Sticky: Yes, I like having no sunroof.

I don't care for sunroofs. Hot when it is sunny, noisy on the freeway, and add significant weight way up high. Trouble is if a sunroof is available on a given model, it is hard to find a car without...
  6. Which motor provides regenerative braking on the Volt?

Anyone know which motor provides regenerative braking? The main drive motor, or the motor/generator connected to the ICE? Just curious.

Most Cruise Ships are serial hybid, as are ferry boats. The electric drive gives good control and full reverse power at any time. Most big cargo ships are direct drive diesels. To reverse they have...

Our 2013 model joined the dead 12v battery club today. The wife went out to show a colleague the car and it was stone dead. Called Volt roadside assistance. The first towing company they tried to...

I don't know that anyone is disputing the quality of Boeing engineers. It's the lack of judgment and competence of their management that has made the 787 so problematic. Compare the disastrous 787...

Suspect he told the reporter the Volt was a plug in hybrid. The reporter Googled plug in hybrid, got the Prius plug in page, and read 15 miles. One would think the "automotive writer" of the Seattle...

It was reported on the internet that the 787 battery costs $16,000.

When the 787 was being designed there was pressure within Boeing to load it up with all the latest gee whiz technology. Many...

I once thought that one would be able to tell when EV's had arrived when someone could write a negative review and not be charged with being an agent of big oil. But given the reaction of Ford,...

The thing with bearings is; they get worse or they don't. Give it a few thousand miles and if it gets noisier then take it back and get it fixed. If it doesn't, it is probably just fine.

It appears the Tesla's wide flat battery pack may have trouble holding heat in cold weather. From a physics standpoint this would make sense. Broder is not the only one to have issues with the Tesla...

It does appear the Tesla range estimator needs to be tweaked a bit. When Broder got up in the morning half his range had disappeared, yet a lot of Tesla owners claim most of the lost range would have...

There is a long history of automotive writers being in the tank and writing nothing but fluff. On the rare occasion a critical article is written, invariably the people who love the car are outraged....

Is the flat battery pack on the Tesla a good idea in the cold?

At least a few people have had problems driving the Tesla S in extremely cold conditions. Tesla is very proud of their very wide and flat battery pack that takes up "no" space, but I wonder if this...

Cars are going to be abused and misused in the real world. If it was important that the Tesla be plugged in overnight, Tesla should have made that clear. The idea that the writer should have know to...
