Scott: Your Volt has arrived....Please call me and let me know when you are planning to come to NY Neal Diamond VOLT NUMBER 1234
That was pretty much it for Friday. Saturday morning we took a cab to Penn Station and took the train out to Bay Shore. If you have an iPhone, google maps will show you streets and subway information. We really covered a lot of ground and walked a lot. It has been probably 20 years since I have wandered around New York and this really made me want to go back! Mark (Dang. I didn't know I wouldn't be able to post the whole story I typed. Sorry but read them in the order that I posted them!)
Then we took the subway down to ground zero and walked around the outside of the construction site then made it into the temporary 9/11 memorial. That was very moving. From there we took the subway back up to Grand Central Station came out and walked up to Rockefeller Center. Took photos at the ice rink then went into the building and bought tickets to the Top of the Rock. This tickets include some historical photographs with history of Mr. Rockefeller and 3 very interesting 4-minute videos. Then you take the elevator to the top. We went to the 70th floor and out onto the roof. It was dark at this point and the view was Very worth the cost and dealing with the cold! Then we started walking back to our hotel and made reservations at a very nice restaurant called Abboccato. After eating and a great bottle of wine we made our way back to the hotel.
Then we walked down Madison Avenue, went to the Apple store and went in to the Plaza Hotel. We love architecture so many of our stops were just to see the buildings. Then we stopped at a restaurant and had a great glass of wine and the BEST pizza ever! From there we walked to our hotel and unloaded the few things we purchased.
When we arrived Thursday night we walked around Times Square and had a great dinner. A waiter there told us about a "Sky Bar" so we went there for a drink with a view of the city. We stayed in mid-town and Friday had the whole day to wander around. We started at the Guggenheim Museum and unfortunately they were in transition so we were only able to see 2 floors of artwork...and the building of course. We then walked down to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and went into the foyer and gift store. It was worth just going inside but the museum is huge and we didn't want to spend the whole day there so we didn't buy tickets into the museum. Then we found a charity fundraiser at the New York Armory so we bought tickets and wondered around inside. It was an antique show with dealers from around the world. The average item was probably $30,000 so we couldn't quite afford anything. :-)

Yes, what MArk is saying is true. I mentioned it to him in another thread and he had it done. Not a big deal if you are planning to take a longer trip in the near future as of course it will average down to ~37-38 mpg pretty quickly
Scotty Anytime you have a question on your Volt (that you dont feel needs to be addressd in the forums) feel free to PM me WopOnTour
To be honest I was not 100% clear on how the allocations worked. Based on your remarks it sounds like GM was going to allocated more than they initially stated. He indicated they were the 13th largest dealership in the nation. He indicated he had the ability to put in for one about Dec 9th...but I was thinking the timeframe of getting it was still like Feb. I can't actually purchase the vehicle until 2011 because I need to make sure my taxes *owed* are > $7500 so I can get the full credit. It appears the drive back will be straight on 80 so all easy highway. I commonly drive 65 because I drive an SUV now so perhaps the same. I'll take my wife and probably spend a couple days in NY.
Glad you were able to get a car from Neal. He said you were chose to take one of the extra cars GM allocated to his dealership instead of putting in an order. I wish he would have let me know about the extra vehicles because instead of waiting for my order to come in (probably early February) I would have possibly taken one of the cars he has coming in December. At this point he is going to let me know Monday what other cars might come in prior to mine. Not a big deal but since my current lease is up next Tuesday, I will be borrowing a car until my Volt arrives....I am very anxious! Since you will likely pick up your car before I can pick up mine, you will have to let me know how the highway is between NY and IL. I am sure I will be traveling the same roads.
