Hi pavers, no I never did pursue that thread.

I already have an electric bicycle, and am also expecting my Volt by mid-spring. That said, has anyone calculated how much, and what would be the practicality of getting solar panels and a battery bank to charge the Volt up at night? Looking at this as a layperson, if you drive the Volt it consumes how many kilo watts to drive 40 miles? From this article it looks like it takes 8kwatts to get a charge that'll push you 40 miles. Is that right?

Though this may be a bit of fantasy, SUPPOSE one were to want to build this solar panel and battery bank OR have a company install a Solar Backup Power system that one then uses to charge the volt in an emergency....is that 8 kilowatt figure realistic? If we could capture and store 8-10 kilowatts from the sun each day, then we could fully charge the volt right?
